Global Music Teacher Training
The Global Music Teacher Training from Olympias Music Foundation, funded by Arts Council England is a new way to broaden and diversify Western models of music education.
We started training in January 2025 and are developing three exceptional global majority musicians with the teaching skills they need to share their musical heritage with our young musicians as professional teachers.
We are excited that this programme will provide skilled inspirational, relatable musical role models for young people from global majority backgrounds to learn new instruments. The three new instruments we are teaching currently are santoor, djembe and harmonium.
We hope our Global Music Teacher Training programme inspires a transformation in music education in the UK and that it will diversify future generations of audiences and music performers, creating a pipeline of future musical talent from different backgrounds and musical traditions.
As part of this project, we are delighted to offer a three-year PhD studentship (co-funded by the Northern Charity Consortium and the RNCM) commencing in September 2025, to assess the project outcomes and share these with the research community following completion.
